ANIMAL CURIOSITIES

Transparent animals that look fake

Transparent animals are a fascinating and unique group of creatures that have evolved to blend in with their surroundings or avoid predators. These animals have clear or translucent bodies, which allow us to see their internal organs and skeletal structure.

These amazing, sometimes invisible organisms resemble real-world ghosts. The absence of pigmentation helps these creatures hide, so they cannot be found by predators. In addition, transparency saves valuable resources.

Here is a list of eight breathtakingly beautiful transparent animals.

The Glasswinged Butterfly (Greta oto)
It is known by the common name of glasswinged butterfly because of its transparent wings, which allow it to camouflage itself without extensive colouration. In its transparent wings, whose pendulum is about 5-6 cm, there are no coloured scales that give colour to other butterflies.

Jellyfish
Jellyfish are probably the most famous transparent animals in nature. The body of a jellyfish is composed of 98 per cent water. Although not all jellyfish are stinging, some cubomedusae such as Chironex fleckeri are particularly dangerous to humans and in some cases can even cause death by anaphylactic shock. Macropinna microstoma
In this species of fish there is a colourless hemispherical capsule that covers and protects the eyes and may give the impression that the head is transparent: the two indentations at the anterior extremity of the head are actually not eyes but olfactory organs. The eyes can be rotated forwards. It possesses an adipose fin on the caudal peduncle. Adults are dark in colour. The maximum length is 15 cm. (source: wikipedia)

Sea angels (Clione limacina)
Sea angels are hermaphrodite molluscs living in the Arctic Ocean, whose scientific name gymnosomata means 'naked body' in Greek. They are called this because they appear to float in the water with the help of small, transparent wings.
