The Birdsey Cape Wildlife Centre is a programme of the New England Wildlife Centre, which operates two non-profit veterinary hospitals and educational centres located in Barnstable and Weymouth, Massachusetts, USA.

The work of this very important centre is mainly to provide veterinary and rehabilitative care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animals.

In addition to wildlife care, the centre also does education and outreach work on land knowledge, wild animal care and environmental protection. In addition, this centre aims to give everyone the opportunity to come into contact with animals and the natural world, as understanding the healing and educational potential of animals is a fundamental component of growth and life.

Looking at the numbers, on average about 2500 animals of 210 different species are cared for each year. In addition, around 5000 students participate in educational activities at the centre every year, thanks to the work of no less than 50 volunteers.

The centre also intervenes in cases of puppies or young birds abandoned by their parents or by the flock, such as this little bird, which is still unable to take care of itself.

The aim, of course, is to reintroduce the animals into the wild in their own territory, using them, for the time they remain in the centre, for educational purposes for the local community.
