Fatou, the world's oldest gorilla has just turned 66 years old
Fatou, the world's oldest female gorilla has turned 66 years old: to celebrate her, the Berlin Zoo (Germany) offered her plenty of fruit as a gift.
Since the death of Trudy, previous seniority record holder (on July 24, 2019), Fatou has become the world's oldest living gorilla.
Fatou was born in 1957 in the wild in West Africa. In 1959 she was brought to France by a sailor, after which she was purchased by the zoo.

World's oldest living gorilla
Since the death of Trudy, previous seniority record holder (on July 24, 2019), Fatou has become the world's oldest living gorilla.
The exact day she broke the record
On July 25, 2020, she passed Trudy's final age of 63 years and 204 days and became the oldest gorilla ever.
Her story
Fatou was born in 1957 in the wild in West Africa. In 1959 it was brought to France by a sailor, after which it was purchased by the zoo.
The arrival in Berlin
It is estimated that she was only two years old at the time of her arrival.
Family
In 1974 she gave birth to the first gorilla bred in Berlin, Dufte. Through her only offspring, Dufte, Fatou is grandmother of two, great-grandmother of 13 (six living) and great-great-grandmother of 16 (ten living).
The last surviving gorilla
After the death of Helen, on October 14, 2022, Fatou became the last surviving gorilla born in the 1950s.
