Wolf with fractured paws rescued and treated, photos

Anas of the Campania region (Italy) found and rescued an injured wolf about two years old.

The animal was wandering, in obvious distress, near a road bridge next to the river Ofanto. Following the intervention of law enforcement officers, men from the veterinary service also intervened, who proceeded to catch the wolf and rescue it.

Thanks to the timely rescue, the wolf was transported to a safe place and received all the care it needed. Veterinarians found that the animal had fractures in its hind legs but it was not determined why.

The number of wolves in Italy
According to reports from the Ente Nazionale Protezione Animale at the end of 2022, the number of wolves in Italy would be about 3,400 (data provided by the Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale). In Italy there would be one wolf every 88.5 square kilometers, one every 44 square kilometers if we consider only the areas where the species is actually present (Alps and Apennines).
