Six animals that can be found in Thailand

Thailand, often called ''the land of smiles,'' is a sought-after destination for travelers from around the world.

Visitable throughout the year (although there are some parts that are not recommended in the summertime due to frequent rain), Thailand offers visitors white beaches, clear blue sea, rice dishes, coconut milk, curry and chili, total relaxation and smiling, welcoming people at every opportunity.

Nature in Thailand is very diverse. Besides the beaches we also find rainforests and vast national parks in which we find different species of animals. Today we offer you a list of the most amazing animals that can be found in Thailand.

1. Elephant
The elephant is the national symbol of Thailand. Many are protected in reserves but wild specimens can be found in the forests. Thai elephants are majestic and playful, and we recommend that you visit at least one reserve where you can spend time with this beautiful animal.

2. Tiger
In Thailand it is possible to observe tigers in the wild. There are currently fewer than 300 in the wild but there is real hope for an increase in their numbers as recently observed by scientists. However, tigers in captivity can still be dangerous and extreme care must be taken.

3. Asian lizard monitor(Varanus salvator).
It is a large lizard, reaching 1.5-2 m. in length in adulthood. These monitor lizards do not seem to be too intimidated by the presence of humans, and can be found even in inhabited rural areas. Bangkok's Lumphini Park is famous for its population of Asian lizards.

The binturong is a strange-looking animal also called a bearcat (bear cat) between 60 and 90 cm in size and weighing about ten pounds. It lives in the wild in forests but has long been used as a pet in the past.

5. Pangolin
The pangolin in Thailand is in serious danger as they are often captured by traffickers who introduce them to China where they are used for traditional medicine. Although their numbers have declined dramatically, it is still possible to encounter this strange but friendly creature in the wild.

6. Gibbons
Beware of gibbons! These monkeys are found everywhere in Thailand and are usually not afraid of tourists. It often happens that they come up to look for food, even to the point of stealing bags and backpacks in search of something to eat. They are real thieves!
